General Test InformationAs a skater improves he or she advances from the Basic Skills program into the USFSA Standard and/or Adult Level competitions. At this point the skater becomes involved with what are called the USFSA Standard and/or USFSA Adult Test levels. These USFSA test levels include Moves-in-the -Field (MIF), Free Skate, and Dance tests in the areas of Men's and Ladies Singles Free Skate, Pairs, and Ice Dance. A skater's competitive level is determined by the Free Skate Test or Dance Test Level he or she has passed. Each test level has specific requirements that are scored by judges appointed by the USFSA. These judges determine whether or not an individual skater has met the requirements of the given test and has passed his or her test. The USFSA tests must be taken in the prescribed order and in the prescribed sequence. For example: a skater must take the Pre-Preliminary tests before the Preliminary tests. The skater must also pass the Moves-in-the-Field test before he or she can take the Free Skate test within each level. Each dance level includes at least three dances. You can test the dances within a level in any order, and they can be taken on the same or different test sessions. Your coach will work with you to prepare you for each test and help you determine when to test. Test Levels
Notes on Adult Free Skating TestsThe age for adult tests is 21 years and older. There are restrictions at each Adult Free Skate test level as to the highest Standard USFSA Free Skate, ISI Free Skate, and/or Figure test passed. You DO NOT test at these levels if you have passed your Standard Intermediate Free Skate test. There are also three Adult Free Skate competitive levels that are based ONLY on Standard Free Skate test levels passed. These are the Adult Masters, Novice, Junior, and Senior levels. To compete at these levels you must have passed the Standard Free Skate tests at the Intermediate level or higher. These levels are higher than the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. Note on Dance TestsAge related testing tracksDance tests may be taken with any one of three tracks: standard, adult, or masters. If you are under 21 years of age, standard is the only dance test option. If you are at least 21 years old, but less than 50 years old, you may either test as an adult or standard. If you are 50 years or older, you may test at the masters level, the adult level, or the standard level. Consult with your coach as to which level is best for you. The standard option apply to all dance tests. The adult option applies only to pre-silver and up. The masters option applies to pre-bronze and up. Some new items for partnered testing (to the best of our understanding)Here are a few new rules for dance tests. The need for standard pre-silver testers to also test solo has been eliminated by the USFSA. In addition, a new USFSA rule allows partner testing with the same gendered partner. Another new USFSA rule for the standard tests states partners for all dance tests, including pre-silver, may be selected without consideration of the partner's test accomplishments or eligibility status. Solo testing trackThere is also a solo option where you can take your dance tests completely solo (i.e., without a partner).
