The Junior Club is a group within AFSC that consists of
all AFSC members under 18 years of age. It is governed by Guidelines approved
by the AFSC Board of Directors and is advised by adult AFSC members. Its
purpose is to encourage young people to continue their interest in the sport
of figure skating, to support competitive skating, to recruit new members, to
provide leadership opportunities, to build self-esteem, to model good
sportsmanship, and to develop a sense of belonging. Its activities will be
designed to meet those objectives and to assist the AFSC Board with
competitions, testing, fundraising, etc. The Junior Club elects its own
officers and determines its own activities consistent with the Guidelines. In
the past, it has organized runners for test sessions and competitions in
cooperation with the test and competition chairs, sent thank you notes to
judges, made and sent birthday cards to AFSC members, and welcomed new members
into AFSC, among other activities. Although all members under 18 are
members of the Junior Club and are encouraged to participate, participation is
not mandatory, and a skater’s level of participation is up to the skater and
his or her family.
